The Community Survey (2002) found that of foreign-born Africans, Nigerians were by far the largest group, numbering 139,500 in the US. compared to 108,000 Egyptians, 87,500 Ethiopians, and 70,000 South Africans. The fact that the population of Nigerians is increasing calls for attention to have an organization that addresses how Nigerians raise their children in new culture, especially America, in the hope of understanding the impact of their parenting practices on society.
|
MAICO NY Inc collaborates with social workers, consultants, mental health counselors and case workers, and therapists so that they can know more about Nigerian families living in New York City, especially East New York, when they are approached for existing resources that would improve parental relationships and promote family stability. MAICO NY Inc assists in improving professional relationships among Nigerian clients and professionals, so that they can understand Nigerian beliefs about parenting and marriage and how America values have impacted them.
